‘The Old Forge’, Fethard.
by David Gilbert

SITUATED IN the heart of the renowned Hook peninsula, a stunning stone-faced country manor-style residence is currently on the market.

Only minutes from several sandy beaches and Hook Head itself, ‘The Old Forge’, Fethard, is a breathtaking 3,000sq ft architecturally-designed home that sits on a majestic site with outstanding views over miles of countryside.

Meticulously finished throughout, this newly-built home combines traditional stone and redbrick external finish (and natural slate roof) with a contemporary almost European-style interior.

Inside includes a large lounge with stone fireplace and Stanley wood-burning stove, which is a unique feature. The sunroom, which opens down into the kitchen-dining area, will give great light during the fine weather.

In the kitchen there are beautiful Italian gloss white units with integrated appliances, and an island with gas hob and chrome extractor hood, as well a black granite worktop.

The entrance hall features an open staircase and vaulted, double-height ceiling that will create a real sense of space. Also on the ground floor is a bathroom, ensuite bedroom and a study/bedroom.

The master bedroom upstairs has the obligatory ensuite but this room also has a separate private sitting area with a floor-to-ceiling glass wall. This feature gives superb views of the landscape surrounding the house.

There is another bedroom upstairs with built-in wardrobes and ensuite. Both the bathroom and ensuites are tiled floor to ceiling and have showers with a 4-jet massage facility. Floors are finished with either solid larch or floor tiles throughout.

Outside, there is an original stone outbuilding, which has further potential uses (a studio, possibly) and the site is wonderfully landscaped and has a mix of mature apple, sycamore and ash trees.

The drive to the front is surfaced with sea pebble, as is the courtyard to the front and there is an ideally positioned patio area off the sunroom, the perfect afternoon/evening suntrap.
