GOREY HEARTSAFE GROUP

The group’s next meeting takes place next Monday, February 12th, at 8 p.m. in the Loch gCarman Arms. All are invited to go along to support this very worthy cause.

Volunteers are urgently required to train to use the defibrillators. Volunteers are not required to fundraise.

NWSPCA LOTTO

The following are the winning numbers from the North Wexford SPCA’s first Lottery draw: 4, 9, 15 and 24.

There was no jackpot winner but there were three lucky dip winners: Orla Peters, Clonmel; Daniel Murphy, Kildavin; and Niamh Murphy, Auckland, New Zealand.

FEBRUARY MONTHLY ROCK MUSIC SESSION

The February monthly Ceoltas session of music, song, and dance held by the Carraig Teabhra (Rock Branch) CCÉ in the Rock Hall will be held next Tuesday, February 13th at 9 p.m.

All are welcome to attend this special St. Valentine’s session. Of course you won’t go home without a cup of tea and current bread.

GOREY CELTIC

Under-12 Division 4 Gorey Celtic 0 – Cloughbawn 2. Celtic had an excellent game and were unlucky to go in at half time one nil down. The back line was outstanding with Adam Connor and Peter Byrne having a terrific game. Gorey were better in the second half, with Sean Kelly from the under-10s letting no one past him. In midfield Connor Jennings and Darragh Brennan played their part in a game where both teams were evenly matched. Towards the end Cloughbawn came under increased pressure as Jarred McGirr and Damien Sniadowka played together for the first time. Garreth Jackson came on for the exhausted Ben Clarke, and it was only because Gorey were attacking so much that the visitors managed to nap another goal on the break. All in all, Gorey can be happy that they are improving as the weeks go by.

Under-12 Wexford Cup Gorey Celtic advance to the last 16 after beating a lively Corach Ramblers by 3-0 on Saturday night. Stephen Maloney, Luca Cosentino and Adam Roche scored for Gorey.

Transition Year Drama

Congratulations to everybody involved in last Friday evening’s performance. The talent of the students of Coláiste Bhríde knows no bounds. The musical performances provided such an array of talent and ranged from modern to classical to traditional. The drama group performed their sketch on stage too. We wish this group the best of luck in the All-Ireland final which takes place in Athlone in February. The second half of the show consisted of a performance of Our Town by the Transition Year class and members of the Home First Project. It was, as always, directed by Mr. Mick Byrne.

Parents Association AGM

The AGM of the Parents Association takes place on Tuesday, February 13th, at 8 p.m. in the school.

Hurling Final

The U16 Hurling team met stiff competition in Coláiste Eoin, Hacketstown on Friday last. The boys rose to the challenge however, showing skill, speed and precision. The boys were victorious when the final whistle blew winning the South Leinster title. Particular congratulations to Michael Collins who scored two goals and seven points of the Coláiste Bhríde tally.

Show Jumping

Coláiste Bhríde had three teams competing in the Schools show jumping competition yesterday. We were once again placed in the ribbons in seventh place.

Environs Debating

Our debating team took part in the semifinal of the Co. Council Environmental debating Competition last Wednesday. They met St. Mary’s College, Arklow. They opposed the motion that the “Irish Tourist Industry shows little interest in sustaining the environment it exploits”.

The team did a wonderful job and were victorious on the day. Well done to the team of Gary Finnerty, Sarah Geoghegan, and Gavin McDermott and we wish them well in the County final which takes in March.
