Oklahoma!

Gorey Musical Society presents Oklahoma! at Gorey Little Theatre from Sunday, April 15th, to Saturday, April 21st at 8 p.m. nightly. Booking opens to the public on April 10th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the theatre. Tickets are €12 for Sunday and Monday, and €16 for the rest of the week. Ring 053-9421474 for further details.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Businesses are invited to take part in the year’s St. Patrick’s Day shop window competition. Judging will take place on Saturday morning, with results announced after the parade. In the meantime, motorists should be aware that detours will be operation on the big day from 2 p.m., with no parking on Esmonde Street from early on Saturday.

SPRING FASHION SHOW

A Spring Fashion Show, presented by Sally West with fashions also by Ml. Leacy & Sons and Jalanda Kids Wear, takes place in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey, on Thursday, April 12th at 8 p.m. There will be a cheese and wine reception beforehand, and the fashion show will be followed by a disco. Admission is €15, and tickets are available from participating shops and Halford’s Hair Studio. This event is being organised as a fundraiser for the appeal in memory of Kathleen Egan, the popular and well-loved member of staff at Sally West who passed away last year.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS TABLE QUIZ

Table quiz in McGovern’s Pub today, Wednesday, March 14th, at 9 p.m. in aid of the Special Olympics Club Gorey Area (SOCGA). All are welcome.

NWSPCA Lotto

The NWSPCA Lotto results are as follows: 1, 5, 18, 22. Three spot prize winners of €15 are: Eileen Morris, Gorey, Niamh Murphy, Wellington, New Zealand, Stan Hempenstall, Courtown.

BEEKEEPERS

Gorey Beekeepers are holding their monthly meeting tomorrow, Thursday, at 8 p.m. in the Teagasc office on the Fort Road in Gorey. The guest speaker will be Patsy Bennett. For any further information contact Ger Williams on 9421823.

LORETO PRIMARY SCHOOL RAFFLE AND 70S/80S NIGHT

To announce the result of the Loreto Primary School’s car raffle, and to thank everyone for all their support to date, the school is holding a 70s/80s night on March 16th at 9 p.m. in the Amber Springs Hotel. Tickets at €10 (to cover the cost) are available from the school, Susie Clince (087-2204810) or Grace Germaine (086-3907026) In the meantime, tickets to win the car are also available from the school at €10 each, or six for €50. The winner can opt for €10,000 in cash instead.

MS TABLE QUIZ

A Table quiz in aid of the North Wexford MS Branch will be held in McGovern’s, Gorey Main Street, on Wednesday, March 21st, at 8.30 p.m. A table of four is just €20. All are welcome.

GOREY RANGERS

Last Saturday, Gorey Rangers played host to Phoenix FC from Dublin in a friendly tournament. Up to 70 boys and girls from the visitors had a great day, although Rangers had a few problems due to key players missing with confirmations. Results as follows: Under-10 2nd team 2 – Phoenix FC 3 Under-10 1st team 0 – Phoenix FC 2 Under-10 3rd team 0 – Phoenix FC 4 Under-11 1st team 1 – Phoenix FC 3 Gorey Rangers would like to congratulate explayer William Doyle, son of Claire and Kevin, on his new career as Head Coach of the FAI’s Emerging Talent programme. He also starts his new Eircom league season with Monaghan United FC who drew 2-2 with the Wexford Youths on Friday.

GOREY CELTIC

Gorey Celtic had a busy Saturday with the under 10s A team taking on Corach Ramblers in the cup. A soft goal was equalised by Celtic when Ben Clarke finished off a great move involving five players. Corach finished off with a late goal to advance to the next road however. The under-14s played the same opponents (albeit older ones). this was another well-contested game, but the visitors again emerged victorious by 3-2. Niall McGrath and Conor Moore got Celtic’s goals. The under-10s B team took on Bunclody in a game where they never gave up no matter what happened. Jamie Cullen led the team by example and got himself on the score sheet.
