Splendid golf at New Ross

THE LADY President Anne Healy’s Prize was played for on Wednesday 29th August and Saturday 1st September.

The 36-hole stableford competition took place in lovely weather and some fine scoring resulted. The 3 leaders from the 1st day battled it out for the overall prize. Teresa Foley (16) who had 40 points on Wednesday was the eventual winner with 35 points on Saturday giving her a total of 75 points.

In 2nd place was Ann Conway (13) who had 37 points on each day giving her a total of 74 points and in 3rd place was Catherine Morrissey (31) who had 40 points on Wednesday and 33 on Saturday giving her a total of 73 points.

The other prizewinners were as follows : Gross Liz Bennett (5) with 58 points, 4th Teresa Minihan (20) with 71 points, Past President’s Prize Anne Fenlon (19) with 70 points 5th Siobhan Kissane (14) with 68 points, 6th Tess Ryan (18) with68 points, 7th Jacqui Morgan (12) with 66 points, 8th Kathleen King (28) with 65 points, 1st 18 Kay Kelleher (26) with 38 points 2nd 18 Kathleen Kelly (32) with 37 points and Committee Prize Sue Barrett (22) with 63 points.

The Lady President’s Prize to the men was won by Willie Whitty (17) 43 points. In 2nd place was Anthony Rochford (8) 42 points and in 3rd place was Shane Cummins (16) 41 points and the Gross was won by Andrew Ryan (4) 36 points.

The Lady President’s Mixed team event took place on Thursday 30th August and the winners were Davy Doran (7) Patsy Coppola (23) and Frances O’Brien (23) 43 points (last 6). 2nd were Tom Kirwan (12), Mary Fogarty (36) and Kathleen Kehoe (28) 43 points and 3rd were Aidan Kent (13), Liz Roberts (20) and Teresa Minihan (20) 42 points (last 3).

There is no competition on Wednesday 5th September as the course is being sanded. The next competition is on Saturday 8th September. This is an 18-hole 3 Person team event sponsored by Sarstdt Ltd. and there is a timesheet in the bar.

The competition on Saturday 8th and Wednesday 12th September is an 18-hole stroke (medal) competition sponsored by Burke’s Pharmacy. The draw times for Wednesday 12th September are 9 to 9.15, 10.15 to 10.30, 2 to 2.15 and 3.45 to 4p.m. The Captain’s Prize Competition for the Junior Members took place on Tues.28th. Aug.

Their was a very large turn out of Juniors for this competition. The Men’s Captain, Eamonn Walsh made the presentation to the winning boys who returned some excellent scores.The results were as follows. 1st: Shane Murphy (31) 4 5pts, 2nd: Eoin Cashin 39pts. 3rd: Lorcan O’Brien (5) 38pts, Gross. Robert Farrell (3) 39pts.

Lady Captain Sue Barrett made the presentation to the winning girls.1st. Aishling Barrett 33 pts. 2nd. Fiona Hartley 29pts. The Tuesday Evening Four Ball Competion continues and the results of last weeks competition was as follows. 1st: Peter Connon (15) and Noel Lynch (18) 35 pts. 2nd: Sean Murphy (13) and Ger Whittle (12) 34 pts. 3rd: Denis Kennedy (12) and Michael O’Neill (19) 33 pts. 4th: Seamus Aldridge (15) and Ollie Cummins (16) 33 pts. 5th: Andrew Ronan (5) and Anthony Rochford (8) 33 pts.

A three-Person Club Team event will take place on Sat. 8th. Sept.

This competition is kindly sponsored by Starstedt and the time sheet is available in the bar.

Forty seniors turned out last week for the weekly competition.

First place in a scramble went to Pat Traynor, Michael Somers, Robert O’Dwyer and JJ Murray with 100 points. Second on 99 were John Kennedy, Mick Wade, Paul Laffan and Jack Mernagh. Third place went to Kieran O Grady, Willie Whitty, Brian Dolan and Ollie Brennan with 98 points.
