Denise leads way in Ladies Open Week

ROSSLARE LADIES’ Open Week started in glorious sunshine on Mon 29 July with the popular Irish Rubies Dublin-sponsored competition and their usual generous array of beautiful jewellery. Our sincere thanks to Shay and Theresa Lynch for this sponsorship.

There were 154 players and the winners were as follows: 1st Denise Marron 26 Nuremore G.C. 43pts. 2nd Kerrie Younge 22 Rosslare 42pts. Gross: Mairéad McNamara 7 Woodbrook 28gross pts. 3rd Fionnuala Callery 33 Rosslare 39pts (B9). 4th Liz Callery 16 Hollystown 39pts. Rosslare Prize: Dorcas Maher 19 37pts. Front 9: Ger Menton 21 St Anne’s 19pts. Back 9: Marie Therese Swan 28 Rosslare 24pts Numbers soared to 172 on Tues 29th with local popular sponsorship of Murphys’ Super Valu. Beautiful hampers of champagne and fine wines tempted the hopefuls and the lucky winners were as follows: Our sincere thanks to Des, Mary and family.

1st Claire Riley 19 Rosslare 44pts. 2nd Doreen McGovern 25 Rosslare 41pts (B9). Gross: Deirdre Walsh 2 Milltown 34gross pts. 3rd Val Mernagh 31 Rosslare 41pts. 4th Siobhán Redmond 31 Rosslare 39pts (B3). 5th Niamh Hanratty 25 Glencullen 39pts. Rosslare Member Prize: Kathleen Cullimore 24 38pts. Back 9: Eleanor O’Connor 21 23pts. Front 9: Leah McDaid 24 Sligo 21pts Rain tried hard to dampen the enthusiasm of the players on July 30 for the very popular Fourball V. Par sponsored by Hynes Jewellers.

The family has been associated with the club for many years and a tribute to their popularity was evident in the 66 pairs who braved the elements. A huge thanks for the beautiful watches. The results were as follows: 1st: Teresa Cowman13/ 10 Rosslare and Bernadette Cuddihy 22/17 Rosslare 4up. 2nd: Carmel Morrissey 24/18 Rosslare and Siobhán Redmond 29/22 Rosslare 3up. Gross: Deirdre Walsh 1/1 Milltown and Liz Heavey 9/7 Milltown 3down (B9). 3rd: Ann Gavagan 15/11 Glen of the Downes and Grainne Moyles 24/18 Rathfarnham 2up

A Team of Three, best two scores to count, rounded off a very successful four days with again local sponsorship, Crosbie Cedars Hotel.

Tom and Ann who are also members of the club, put up a beautiful selection of prizes and, despite gale force winds and torrential rain at times, 126 players took to the fairways.

Winners as follows: 1st: Ger Buggy 25 Old Conna, Miriam Coyle 26 Powerscourt and Ann Moran 33 Castle 85pts. 2nd: Grainne Hynes 17 Dun Laoighre, Niamh Hanratty 23 Glencullen and Barbara Cotter 27 Milltown 81pts. 3rd: Theresa Healy 15 Rosslare, Mary McDonald 17 Rosslare & Trish Devereux 20 Rosslare 79pts. 4th: Sheila Doyle 21 Rosslare, Maura Foran 22 Rosslare and Margaret Lacey 24 Rosslare 77pts(B9)
