Gorey student wins top t-shirt design
A NORTH Wexford student at the National College of Art and Design has won a t-shirt design competition celebrating the return of a chocolate bar.
Tammy Larkin, Ballycanew, Gorey, is an embroidery student at the NCAD and chose the theme “Sweet Sound of the 80s” as her inspiration for the production of a stunning t-shirt which is said to have wowed the judges.
This t-shirt has since gone into production and will be on sale soon in selected outlets nationwide. Ms. Larkin said: “My design inspiration was influenced by an 80s atmosphere and style with a contemporary twist. I wanted to bring the Wispa image into the 21st Century but still giving it an 80s vibe.
“I concentrated on the trend of big headphones which was popular to both male and females in the 80s and today.”
An expert judging panel including leading Fashion Designer Helen Cody and stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick selected a winner of the NCAD t-shirt design competition to celebrate the return of Wispa.
The competition saw a fantastic array of talent on display making it extremely difficult for the judges to pick a clear winner. Both Helen Cody and Lisa Fitzpatrick offered advice and encouragement to all the participating students, stressing just how difficult and competitive the world of design can be whilst also applauding the level of creativity on show. The entrants came from various faculties and course within the design college incorporating Visual Communications, and Embroidery and Textiles and included some of Ireland’s brightest young designers.
