Parenting Course

The Health Service Executive is offering an eight week parenting course for parents of 9-16yr olds in the Gorey area.

Titled “Family Communications & Self Esteem (FCSE),” it starts on Tuesday 23rd of February and finishes Tuesday 13th of April 2010 from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. at Gorey Community School.

Ballyoughter Official extension

The new extension in Ballyoughter National School will be officially opened by Minister for Education Batt O’Keeffe on Friday 22 January at 1.30 p.m.

The event will be attended by Vicar General Fr. Joe McGrath, local representatives, past pupils and parents of the student body.

A plaque will be unveiled on the day and a tree will be planted to commemorate the event. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Gorey Musical Society

Gorey Musical Society will be holding a table quiz in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel on Wednesday 27 January at 8.30 p.m.

All welcome.

Benefit Night

A benefit night will take place in the Loch Garman Arms on 5 February at 8.30 p.m. in aid of Special Olympics Gorey Area.

Music will be by Tommy Carroll and there will be door and raffle prizes.

Admission is €5. All welcome. St. Vincent de Paul

St. Vincent de Paul will be handing out cheese on Friday from 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Road, Gorey. All welcome.

Dream Auction

We are running a dream auction in aid of Christ Church Gorey on March 10th in the Amber Springs Hotel.

In the next week-10 days members of the organising committee will be approaching businesses in the Gorey area looking for support in the form of donations of goods or services or the buying of advertising in the auction brochure -full page ads cost €50 and a half page ad costs €30.

Despite the current economic climate we would appeal for support in order to complete the restoration work on the church and organ in order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church in 2011.

This advance notice is to let the good people of Gorey know that the event is coming and we would love to see as many people as possible at the auction and would be grateful for any support that can be given.

Loreto Primary Open Afternoon

Parents, Past Pupils and Local Community are invited to an Open Afternoon in Loreto Primary School, from 1.30 3.30 on Wednesday 3rd February as part of the school’s official opening which will formally take place later in the week.”

NWSPCA lotto

The North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals monthly fundraising lotto draw did NOT TAKE place this month due to the poor weather conditions.

The lotto jackpot stands at €2,200 and the draw will now take place on Monday February 1st 2010.

The lotto also has a Multi-Draw facility where people can enter the draw up to six months in advance you select the same numbers and they are automatically submitted every month, ask sellers for details.

Apologies for any inconvenience and people are thanked for their continued support.

Gorey Country Market

The prizewinners for the Christmas Draw are as follows: Noreen O’Connor got first prize, with Ann Rafferty clinching second prize, Mary Sheil third prize and M. White fourth.

Thanks to all of our customers for their co-operation over the last number of years and we will be operating from 9 to 11 a.m. every Saturday morning in Esmonde Street.

Gorey Active Retirement

Reminding all our members of our AGM which will be held on Tuesday the 26th January 2010, in the Ashdown Park Hotel at 2.30pm.

Car treasure hunt for Gorey Red Cross

Car Treasure Hunt’ in aid of Gorey Red Cross Ambulance Fund on Sunday 24th January 2010 Gorey Red Cross will hold a car treasure hunt on Sunday 24th Jan starting from the Community school car park and go out on a approx drive of 30 kilometres around the local area.

The first car is due to leave at 12 noon, with a car departing every two minutes after that.

Registration will take place on the day and each car will be given a set of instructions for a driving route and they must identify answers to a list of questions along the route.

There will be points awarded for correct answers and for time in to final check point.

The course has being set with a total of 67 questions to be found on the route which will begin at the community school car park and go out past Clonattin towards Ballymoney on into Courtown, Riverchapel, Ashton, Balloughter and finishing in the Ashdown Park Hotel, where the prize giving will take place at approx 4.30 p.m.

We are looking for a donation from each car, hopefully of about €20 for a car of four, though all donations will be accepted.

Prizes will be awarded in different categories.

It’s hoped to have a vintage section which will run from 2.30 till 3pm.

prizes will be given out at a venue yet to be decided after 4.30 when all cars have returned.

Castletown Liam Mellows Coolgreany GAA Club

The winners of the club’s 300-1 members draw for December are: Harry Harte €500; Jack Murray €400 and Tara Hill National School €400.

Club gear such as hoodies, jerseys, shorts, socks, polo shirts (adult & children), rain jackets and large gear bags.

It is hoped to have the official opening in February.

Gorey Credit Union National Schools Quiz

Gorey Credit Union will be holding preliminary rounds of the 2010 Credit Union National Schools Quiz on Friday 29th January 2010 and would like to invite schools in our common bond to enter teams of four children.

FOR THIS QUIZ SCHOOLS MAY ENTER ONLY ONE TEAM PER CATEGORY The competition will have two age-group categories.

Competition A entrants must not have reached their 11th Birthday on or before 31st December 2009.

Competition B entrants must not have reached their 13th Birthday on or before 31st December 2009.

The eldest member of a team determines which Quiz the team will compete in.

Our Credit Union level quiz will take place on Friday 29th January 2010 in The Amber Springs Hotel at 7.00 p.m. sharp. Please arrive no later than 6.45p.m.

The winning team from competition A and the winning team from competition B will progress to Stage 2, organised by the Credit Union Chapter (Chapter 9) on Fri Sat 6th March 2010 in The Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey.

Winners and runners-up from that stage will then qualify for the National Final on Sunday 18th April 2010 in Dublin.
