St. Vincent de Paul collection
The SVDP Gorey, will hold the second part of its annual Christmas Collection at all Masses at St. Michael’s Church, Gorey, on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December.
We appreciated your support during the past year.
Collection for Crumlin Hospital
Local children will be singing Christmas songs in Gorey Shopping Centre on Sunday 13 December at 3.30 p.m. in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Please support this worthy cause.
Gorey Active Retirement
Go for life and Whist are now discontinued until January 2010. Congratulations to the two Gorey bowling teams who came first and second in the Golden Years’ Festival.
Team one consisted of Damien Goodwin, Pat Coady, Róisín Duncan and Seán Cushen. Team two consisted of Pat O’ Hanlon, Julie O’Hanlon, Phil Byrne and Anne Slator.
Coffee morning
A coffee morning in aid of cystic fibrosis will take place in the Loch Garman Arms on 4 December from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Raffle prizes, Christmas cards, candles and cookbooks will be on sale. Many thanks to all businesses who donated raffle prizes.
Gorey Choral Group
Gorey Choral Group is about to bring some Christmas cheer to Gorey town once again.
On Sunday 6 December, the group will be singing at the Christmas Market on Main Street and also at 11 a.m. Mass on Christmas Day.
The big date for this year is the festive evening with Gorey Choral Group at the Ashdown Park Hotel on Wed 16 December.
There will be mulled wine, light refreshments and wonderful entertainment from the choir and performances from members in smaller groups.
Tickets are €15 per person and a table consists of ten people. Tickets are available from all members of the choir or from the Ashdown Park Hotel.
Gorey Musical Society
Gorey Musical Society is pleased to announce its forthcoming musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” which will run from 22 to 27 March 2010.
The production team will consist of Alan Kinsella as Director, Lar Duffy as Musical Director and Bernadette O’Rourke as Choreographer.
“Millie” is a high-spirited, musical romp set in the roaring 20s and will have you all dancing. Auditions for the show will be held in the coming weeks.

Courtown RNLI Lifeboat Card Sale
Courtown Lifeboat would like to thank all those who supported the Christmas card and souvenir sale held in Gorey Shopping Centre on Saturday last.
Many thanks to Gorey Shopping centre staff for all their help and for allowing the lifeboat to have the day in the centre.
For those who still require Lifeboat Christmas cards, calendars or to stock up on Lifeboat tea and biscuits, Courtown Lifeboat shop is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1.00 to 4p.m.
Christmas cards also available from the Taravie hotel, Courtown.
All monies raised go to saving lives at sea.

Gorey Chamber set out the proposed opening hours for businesses in the town for the Christmas period as listed below but has said that it’s entirely up to the individual proprietors at to which hours they choose.
It should be noted that Santa is coming to town on the 6th of December.

Health meeting for men
A night of lectures will take place on Men’s health in the Ashdown Park Hotel on Monday 7 December at 7.30p.m.
Gorey Branch of Irish Red Cross
The fund-raising committee is holding a table quiz on Friday 4 December in the Ramble Inn, Ballycanew, at 9.30p.m. sharp. Team of four persons will cost €20, all support is needed. This will be a nice easy quiz suitable for all.
Make a Wish
The Make a Wish foundation are holding a series of collections in Tesco on the Courtown Rd., and are asking for volunteers to help them bag packing on 3, 4 and 5 of December from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
If you would like to help make a child’s dream come true and can spare an few hours to help bag packing, please contact PJ Keating on 086 6005558.
Aware
An Aware Support Group is open on Monday nights at 7.30p.m. in the Gorey Community Youth and Childcare Facility, Mary Ward Lane, St. Michael’s Road Gorey.
The group which is open to those experiencing depression is confidential and nonjudgemental.

St. Patrick’s Snooker Club
The club is looking for both old and new members and are hoping that females will join who might be interested in coming along.
There will be no charge for membership but a charge for each game that is played.
They are also looking for helpers to run the club. It will be open every day from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

NWSPCA Volunteers Wanted
The North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has issued an appeal for volunteers, they are looking for anyone who can give time at their dog kennels, cat sanctuary, fundraising events or any other assistance.
The society is dealing with more unwanted animals, inspector calls and fundraising events than ever before it needs your help. If you want to volunteer, contact 087-6392539 and documentation will be posted out.
Any volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and everyone under 18 must have parents’ consent.
If you feel strongly enough about animal welfare, this is your opportunity to do something about it.
Keep Fit Class
A keep fit class suitable for all levels will take place in the Badminton Hall, Gorey Leisure Complex (across from Scout Hall), Esmonde Street on Monday and Thursday 7-8p.m. Ring Bernadette for more information on 0879407852.
Al-Anon Meeting
Are you troubled by someone’s drinking?
There will be an al-anon meeting, with AA participation, held every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s opposite St. Michael’s Church.
Gorey Chess Club
Local Chess enthusiasts meet every Monday night at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms, Main Street, Gorey. Chess sets are provided. Everyone is welcome.
The SOS information bureau
Suicide or Survive has compiled a database of services within Ireland.
A lot of people still do not know where to turn or how to turn or how to address suicide.
SOS Information Bureau is an independent specialist telephone informationbased service. It provides information and supports available around mental health issues.
They promote greater accessibility and public awareness of good mental health.
We endeavour to be supportive and empathetic to all our callers, ensuring that they are heard and given accurate up to date information on services available in their areas. Tel: 0402 41487.
Aware
Aware South East is currently seeking to involve volunteers in the facilitation of a new support group in the Gorey area. The ideal volunteer is someone who has good listening skills, common sense and who can empathize in a non judgmental way with those who have had or are experiencing depression.
