Community Games
Gorey area Community Games’ quiz will take place in St Joseph’s CBS at 7.30p.m. on Monday 8th February.
Fifth and sixth class and first-year students living in the Gorey area who are under 14 on 1st August 2010 are eligible to enter.
Teams of four, entry fee: €4 per team.
Loreto Primary Open Afternoon
Parents, past pupils and community are invited to an Open Afternoon in Loreto Primary school from 1.303.30p.m. on Wednesday 3rd February as part of the school’s official opening which will formally take place later in the week.

Gorey Active Retirement
Our next day trip is to the famous “Fishers” Ladies and Gents Store in Wicklow. It is on Wednesday 24 February, which includes a fashion show and lunch. The bus will leave the Ashdown Park Hotel at 11.30a.m. Price is €25.
Ploughing
Carnew ploughing Society are holding their annual ploughing match in Coolboy to mark their 100th anniversary, with all the usual classes in stubble on the same lands as it was held 100 years ago by kind permission of Dagge Brothers and Mr. Hill.
There will be lots of side shows on the day with a bird display, poultry, lady walking a black pig, oxen ploughing, vintage display and more, entries or enquiries to Gavin on 087-4154899. Prizes on the night will be given in the Little Moon.
64 Golf Society
Results of the “64” Golf Society outing which was held at the European Golf Club Brittas Bay on Saturday 23 Jan 10.

The course as usual was in excellent condition but once again proved to be the winner as the scores have shown.
37 members played and 5 visitors.
The front runners early on were Mick Morrissey/Walter McNally and Paddy Dore with 34 pts but the winner David Taylor came in on the blind side to steal the spoils. David has won the European outing in the past.
Following the outing the presentation was held in Oscars (64 Lounge).
The Captain Mick Morrissey thanked all those who came for playing. The Secretary Paddy O Dowd told the members that the weekend away will be held on the 19/20 of February.
Staying at the “D” Hotel in Drogheda and playing the courses at Laytown and Bettystown and Dundalk.
If any members are still interested in going give Brendan Sheehan a ring to confirm a place. Our next outing will be held at Arklow Golf Club on Saturday 6th March. All members will be notified in the usual manner.
Paddy also said that Mick McGrath was leading the Golfer of the Year after 3 outings with 52pts followed closely by John Grannell with 49pts and Ollie Quigley on 48pts.
Tribute Band
Tribute to singer songwriter Woody Sagoo Richard McDonald in the Schooner, Ballygarrett, on Saturday 30 January at 10p.m. music by Dermot blues Byrne, Coley Jimi Cullen and various others all proceeds from raffle to St. Aidan’s Services, Gorey.
Dancers appear on TG4
A GROUP of local Irish dancers reached the final of a heat in a national talent competition which was aired on TG4.
Members of Caroline Fleming Academy of Irish Dancers, known as Leasracha, performed an electric lively Irish dance piece in the Glas Vegas Talent Competition.
Rory Kavanagh, Clare Hawthorne, Aoife Haskins, Michelle Cullen, Rosie Wallace lit up the studios with their performance which was choreographed by Ms. Fleming.
Judges were thoroughly impressed by their routine; however they narrowly missed out on getting on winning the heat as an Irish Dancing couple was picked.
But, all was not lost and “Leasracha” were delighted when they won the audience award.
Speaking about the television appearance, Ms. Fleming said: “We are delighted with our overall result of runner up in the second heat and look forward to performing in the future on television as requested.”
Social Hockey
Social hockey will take place every Wednesday in Naomh Eanna Sport’s Hall from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information please contact Bridget on 087 7606765. All welcome.
Haiti Fundraiser
A fundraiser will take place in aid of Concern’s Haiti Fund on Saturday 13th March in the Amber Springs Hotel. Super raffle prizes will be won on the night.
It will take place from 8 p.m. and will include a host of bands and DJs. Admission is €10.

Haiti Coffee morning
Gorey Tennis Club will host a coffee morning in aid of Trocaire’s Haiti Fund on Saturday 30 January from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Club House on Esmonde Street. All welcome.
Parenting Course
The Health Service Executive is offering an eight week parenting course for parents of 9-16yr olds in the Gorey area. Titled “Family Communications & Self Esteem (FCSE)” it starts on Tuesday 23rd of February and finishes Tuesday 13th of April 2010 from 7 to 9.30 p.m. at Gorey Community School.
Gorey Musical Society
Gorey Musical Society will be holding a table quiz in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel on today Wednesday 27 January at 8.30 p.m.

Dream Auction
We are running a dream auction in aid of Christ Church Gorey on March 10th in the Amber Springs Hotel.
In the next week to ten days members of the organising committee will be approaching businesses in the Gorey area looking for support in the form of donations of goods or services or the buying of advertising in the auction brochure-full page ads cost €50 and a half page ad costs €30.
Despite the current economic climate we would appeal for support in order to complete the restoration work on the church and organ in order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church in 2011.
This advance notice is to let the good people of Gorey know that the event is coming and we would love to see as many people as possible at the auction and would be grateful for any support that can be given.
Benefit Night
A benefit night will take place in the Loch Garman Arms on 5 February at 8.30 p.m. in aid of Special Olympics Gorey Area.
Music will be by Tommy Carroll and there will be door and raffle prizes. Admission is €5. All welcome.
NWSPCA lotto
The North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals monthly fundraising lotto draw did not place this month due to the poor weather conditions.
The lotto jackpot stands at €2,200 and the draw will now take place on Monday February 1st 2010.
The lotto also has a MultiDraw facility where people can enter the draw up to six months in advance you select the same numbers and they are automatically submitted every month, ask sellers for details.

Gorey Credit Union National Schools’ Quiz
Gorey Credit Union will be holding preliminary rounds of the 2010 Credit Union National Schools Quiz on Friday 29th January 2010 and would like to invite schools in our common bond to enter teams of four children.
FOR THIS QUIZ SCHOOLS MAY ENTER ONLY ONE TEAM PER CATEGORY
The competition will have two agegroup categories.
Competition A entrants must not have reached their 11th Birthday on or before 31st December 2009.
Competition B entrants must not have reached their 13th Birthday on or before 31st December 2009.
The eldest member of a team determines which Quiz the team will compete in.
Our Credit Union level quiz will take place on Friday 29th January 2010 in The Amber Springs Hotel at 7.00 p.m. sharp. Please arrive no later than 6.45p.m.
The winning team from competition A and the winning team from competition B will progress to Stage 2, organised by the Credit Union Chapter (Chapter 9)on Fri Sat 6th March 2010 in The Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey.
Winners and runnersup from that stage will then qualify for the National Final on Sunday 18th April 2010 in Dublin.
