Diversity was key to festival success
ONE OF the main contributing factors to the success of this year’s JFK Dunbrody Festival in New Ross was the diversity of the range of attractions for visitors and locals.
While the main focus of attention was based on events taking place on the festival’s main stage in the town park, the programme of fringe events also proved very successful.
A wide range of events takes place on the river Barrow every year as part of the festival programme.
This year was no different and on Saturday members of the Rising Tide Training Programme entered the town on board the 60ft Challenge Wales training vessel.
The yacht left Milford Haven with a crew of 18 including instructors from Mitec [the boat-building arm of Pembrokeshire College] and nine students from Wales and New Ross.
The initiative was part of a programme of cross-border activities under the Rising Tide Interreg programme.
The Challenge Wales yacht was formally welcomed to New Ross by the Chairperson of New Ross Town Council, Cllr. John Dwyer.
The Rising Tide Co-ordinator, Sean Reidy, was also in attendance to welcome the yacht and its crew to the town. The Challenge Wales crew provided stewarding at Saturday night’s Jedward concert in the town park.
