Minute’s Silence

All students of Gorey Community School marked the commemoration of the Great Famine on Friday last, May 14 as part of the national remembrance day.

The day began with a ceremony of reading, music and prayer in the school Oratory before a minute’s silence was held at midday to remember all the victims of the Irish famine and to empathise with all famine victims throughout the world.

Information Evening

The Haven Group will hold an information evening on counselling and psychotherapy on Monday, May 24 in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey from 7.00 to 9p.m.

This evening may be of interest/benefit to anyone looking to understand the benefits of counselling and psychotherapy.

Gorey Chamber AGM

Gorey Chamber will hold its Annual General Meeting on Monday next, May 24 in their offices in Gorey Business Park. With a start time of 6.30p.m.

members will be in a position to review the work of the Chamber over the past year and its work for the future. All members are welcome.

Collection

Saint Patrick’s Special School in Enniscorthy would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported their recent church gate collection in the Gorey and surrounding areas.

Thanks also to all the collectors for all their time.

Gorey Rangers Schoolboys’ Soccer

The Academy training for the tiny tots’ section has finished now until the new season resumes.

A medal presentation night will take place in the Loch Garman Arms on Friday, May 28 from 7.30p.m. and all members are welcome.

The AGM will be held on June 17 at 8p.m. again in the Loch gCarman Arms and all are welcome to attend.

Registration and a family fun day will be held on June 19 from 10.30a.m. in the Showgrounds at Fort Road which will include a BBQ, bouncy castle and junior soccer blitz.

Charity Quiz

A charity table quiz in aid of the AZ children’s charity, which helps Ugandan Aids orphans, will take place in McGovern’s Pub on Wednesday, May 19. Entry for the quiz will cost €20 for a table of four.

Crannóg na Leanaí

Crannóg na Leanaí, which is a Steiner Kindergarten and parent and toddler group, is based in Kiltennel, Ballymoney and the ECCE approved centre is holding an Open Day on Saturday, May 29 between 2pm and 4pm. This is a non-profit making community-based preschool and all are welcome.

NWSPCA Lotto

The winning numbers for the May running of the North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals monthly fundraising lotto draw are 10, 11, 13 and 21.

There was no winner of the €2,350 jackpot and three tickets were pulled out in the lucky dip draw, these winners were Councillor Robbie Ireton, Jenny’s dog Molly and Liz’s dogs Thelma & Louise, each received €15. Next month’s jackpot increases to €2,400 and the draw will be held on Monday June 14th.

The Society is looking for additional ticket sellers, if you can help, contact their emergency response number on 087-6392531 to be included.

St Aidan’s Lotto

St. Aidan’s Services have just launched a new Lotto with a jackpot of €2,000. Tickets cost €2 each and are available from various shops and businesses around Gorey. The first draw will be made on Friday, May 28 in the Amber Springs.

High Kings Concert

The High Kings are coming to the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey on Saturday, May 29. Tickets cost €30 and all money raised will go towards St. Aidan’s Services. Tickets are available on TicketsIreland.ie (1890 305 305) as well as Jack Dunnes, Whites for Music in Gorey, Ice Menswear and in the Amber Springs.

Equestrian Competition

A Mini, Midi, Maxi equestrian competition will take place on May 23 at the Riverside Equestrian Centre in The Rock at 2p.m.

All money raised will go towards St. Aidan’s Services. Anyone interested in taking part can contact Patsy on 087-9824275 or Joey on 0862167979.

Tag Rugby

Why not keep fit over the summer as Gorey RFC’s Summer Tag continues at their grounds in Clonattin each Wednesday at 7.30p.m? All welcome.

SOCGA

Special Olympics’ Club Gorey Area in association with Springmount Nursery is hosting a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and family fun day in Springmount Garden Centre, Ballycanew on Sunday, May 23 from 12 to 6p.m. Events include fancy dress, BBQ, music and lots of fun games to play. Bring along a Teddy Bear too.

This event will raise much needed funds for the Special Olympics Club in Gorey.

The Bealtaine Festival (May 16, 17, and 18) Entries for the Talent Competition are urgently required. Sing a song, do a dance, tell a tall tale or play a tune. The competition is open to nonmembers and all are welcome. Contact George on 053-9383918.

Line Dancing takes place each Thursday from 1.45 to 3.45p.m. in the Badminton Hall on Esmonde Street. A Table Quiz will take place on June 10 from 8.30pm in the Loch gCarman Arms. Tables of four will cost €20 and it will be open to nonmembers.
