37 submissions made to Draft Plan

37 SUBMISSIONS have been made to Wexford County Council in relation to the draft Gorey Town and Environs Local Area Plan 2010 leading to material differences being made to the plan.

As a result of the submissions and subsequent recommendations made by the county manager, Eddie Breen, the draft plan will be put on public display for a further four weeks in the County Council offices in Gorey to allow the public to consider the changes.

The plan was on display from April 21 until June 1 last and in that time 37 submissions were made by statutory bodies, members of the public, landowners and developers from Gorey.

The submissions to the draft plan were presented to the members of the Gorey Electoral Area Committee of the County Council at a special meeting on June 25 last where they considered the submissions and manager’s report.

The manager’s report was then presented to a full meeting of the council earlier this month and was passed unanimously.

Speaking about the recommendations made in his report, Mr. Breen said: “Having regard to these proposed amendments, it is considered that they are material in nature and consequently, it is recommended these proposed amendments be placed on public display for a four-week period.”

Among the statutory bodies who submitted views on the draft plan were the Office of Public Works, Coillte Teoranta, the Health Service Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The majority of the submissions sought to get the zoning of land changed predominately made by developers.

Most were looking to get the zoning changed to residential, however, the County Manager rejected most applications stating there was a sufficient amount of residential zoned land for the foreseeable future.

The new plan will see 250 acres of residential land around Gorey being dezoned after planners believed the 2002 Local Area Plan zoned far too much land for residential use.
