Penneys definitely coming to town

ONE GOREY businessman has told the Echo he believes Penneys are definitely going to open a store in the town.

The business man, Pat Redmond, has held discussions with representatives of the retail giant in recent months about locating a store on his land in Ballyloughan on the Arklow Road.

While nothing has been sorted out yet, the businessman, who owns the Amber Springs and Ashdown Park Hotels in Gorey, believes it will happen. “They are in discussions with a number of parties but they are definitely coming to Gorey.”

Rumours that the clothing store is going to locate in Gorey have been circulating the town for a number of months. Last May, following an enquiry by the Echo, a spokesperson for Penneys said: “There is no truth in this rumour.” However, the rumours have persisted and at the time of going to print no response had been received from Primark who operates the Penneys operation in this country.

Executive with the Gorey Chamber of Commerce, Dick White told the Echo he had also heard the rumours but that was all he had heard.

On the company’s website under the ‘Future Stores’ link, there is no locations in Ireland mentioned.
