NWSPCA Lotto

The February winning numbers for the North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals monthly fundraising lotto draw are 5, 26, 27 and 28.

The draw incorporates the January draw which could not be held due to the bad weather conditions.

There was no winner of the €2,200 jackpot and three tickets were pulled out in the lucky dip draw, these winners were Teresa Kirwan, Ann Gallagher and Houdini (Rebecca’s Cat), each received 15 euro.

Next month’s lotto jackpot increases to €2,250 and the draw will be held on Monday March 1st.

The lotto also has a MultiDraw facility where people can enter the draw up to six months in advance you select the same numbers and they are automatically submitted every month, ask sellers for details.

The Society is looking for additional ticket sellers, if you can help, contact their emergency response number on 0876392531 to be included.

Thank You

Gorey Educate Together would like to thank all of those who took part in their recent sponsored walk and helped make it so successful.

A total of €4,088 was made by the walk which was organised by the Parent Teachers Association.

A donation of €585 was made by Barclaycard, Dublin which was very gratefully received. All funds will go to equipment for the new P.E. hall.

Community Games

Gorey area community games quiz will take place in St Joseph’s CBS at 7.30pm on Monday 8th February.

Fifth and sixth class and first year students living in the Gorey area who are under 14 on 1st August 2010 are eligible to enter. Teams of four, entry fee: €4 per team.

Loreto Primary Open Afternoon

Parents, past pupils and community are invited to an Open Afternoon in Loreto Primary school from 1.30-3.30pm on Wednesday 3rd February as part of the school’s official opening which will formally take place later in the week.

Gorey Celtic

Haiti Fundraiser

A fundraiser will take place in aid of Concern’s Haiti Fund on Saturday 13th March in the Amber Springs Hotel.

Super raffle prizes will be won on the night. It will take place from 8 p.m. and will include a host of bands and DJs. Admission is €10.

All are encouraged to support the worthy cause.

Parenting Course

The Health Service Executive is offering an eight week parenting course for parents of 916yr olds in the Gorey area. Titled “Family Communications & Self Esteem (FCSE)” it starts on Tuesday 23rd of February and finishes Tuesday 13th of April 2010 from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. at Gorey Community School.

Benefit Night

A benefit night will take place in the Loch Garman Arms on 5 February at 8.30 p.m. in aid of Special Olympics Gorey Area. Music will be by Tommy Carroll and there will be door and raffle prizes. Admission is €5. All welcome.

Dream Auction

We are running a dream auction in aid of Christ Church Gorey on March 10th in the Amber Springs Hotel.

In the next week-10 days members of the organising committee will be approaching businesses in the Gorey area looking for support in the form of donations of goods or services or the buying of advertising in the auction brochure-full page ads cost €50 and a half page ad costs €30.

Despite the current economic climate we would appeal for support in order to complete the restoration work on the church and organ in order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church in 2011.

This advance notice is to let the good people of Gorey know that the event is coming and we would love to see as many people as possible at the auction and would be grateful for any support that can be given.

Gorey Heartsafe

Revalidation classes for trained personnel, 10 and 17 February in the Ashdown Park Hotel between 7.30pm and 9 p.m. training will commence soon for anyone interested in training for heart safe.

Our next general meeting is on Monday 8 February at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel, the following committee was elected at our last meeting: Ken Maguire-Chairperson, William Willoughby-Vice Chairperson, Padraig RohanTreasurer, Geraldine Farrellsecretary and Lillian Fleming-Minute Secretary and P.R.O.

Well done to the U15 boys soccer team who won their match in Bunclody recently, good luck in the next round, well done to Ben Ivory who won all of his chess games, and to all the other players who played very well.

Up-coming events include Talent auditions to take place on Sunday 28th February from 2pm 4pm, parental supervision a must. Choir evening date to be confirmed, and table quiz to be held soon.

Put a bit more thought into Valentine’s Day this year, by sending your Valentine a North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Valentine’s Card.

Show her you care for both her and the animals if that doesn’t work, we don’t know what will!! Cards are available at Angelic Companions on John Street, Gorey.

Retired Teachers Talk

Retired Primary teachers please note that the talk on the Co. Council’s art collection, which was to have taken place last month but was cancelled on account of adverse weather conditions, has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, 9th. Feb. at 11a.m. in the Council Chamber, Co. Hall, Wexford.

Carnew Ploughing

Carnew ploughing society are holding their annual ploughing match on Monday 8th February in Coolboy to mark Coolboy’s 100th year on the same lands by kind permission of Dagge Brothers and Mr. Hill.

Draw for plots at 12 noon and ploughing starting at 1 pm, all ploughing will be in stubbles, please register with Gavin on 0874154899 or on the day.

As well as ploughing there will be lots of side shows including a bird display, poultry, vintage machinery, a lady walking a black pig, horse shoe throwing, and more. The meal will be given in the Little Moon.

There will be entertainment from 10 pm onwards so please come along and enjoy the music, etc.

Gorey Active Retirement

Drama Rehearsals Starting back on Tuesday 9th February in Christchurch Old School. Time 8p.m. We urgently need new members. Contact Madge on 087 7674443.

Our next day trip is to the famous “Fishers” Ladies and Gents Store in Wicklow. It is on Wednesday 24 February, which includes a fashion show and lunch. The bus will leave the Ashdown Park Hotel at 11.30a.m. Price is €25.

CURA

CURA, The Crisis Pregnancy Counselling Service, has new opening hours at its Centre in Gorey.

The phone line 053 94 80928 is now open on Wednesday Afternoons from 4.00 to 6.00pm.

Cura is a free and confidential service which offers: free pregnancy testing, pregnancy counselling, a support service throughout pregnancy, information on social welfare entitlements, referral to medical help and information, help with accommodation, if requested, referral to a fostering and/or adoption service, post abortion counselling, information programme for schools and other groups, family support.

Gorey Centre which is situated at St. Michael’s Pastoral Centre in Gorey is an outreach of Wexford Cura Centre 053 91 22255. Open Monday 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday 4 to 6 p.m.,

and Thursdays 11.00am to 1.00pm. Both are part of the Cura national organisation which has 18 centres throughout Ireland.

The National Help Line 1850 622 626 is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 9.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.ooam to 5.00pm , at the cost of a local call.
