Turner to play Carnegie Hall

WEXFORD musician Pierce Turner is preparing for the biggest gig of his life – playing alongside rock legends Patti Smith and Iggy Pop in New York’s Carnegie Hall.

The forthcoming performance, at the prestigious Tibet House benefit, is a major coup for Mr. Turner, whose love of music can be traced back to his childhood and growing up in Wexford’s only record shop.

Since those bygone days, Mr Turner has enjoyed a stellar career and has released a number of critically acclaimed albums, prompting Hot Press to name him “Ireland’s greatest living poet,” and the Irish Times to fete him as one of the most important Irish artists of the last twenty years.

Held at the legendary Carnegie Hall since 1993, the sell-out Tibet House benefit features up-and-coming musicians and some of the music industry’s biggest legends. This year’s concert boasts Sufjan Stevens, Tom Verlaine, Band of Horses, Iggy Pop and Patti Smith among others.
