Gorey Red Cross Table Quiz

Gorey Red Cross is holding a table quiz in the Ramble Inn, Ballycanew, on Friday, March 5, in aid of the Ambulance Fund.

The quiz starts at 9a.m. and a table of four is €20.

The quiz master will be Ben Martin and an enjoyable night is on the cards. All are welcome.

Reunion

A reunion of all Noritake staff will take place in the Arklow Bay Hotel on Saturday, March 13 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of its closure.

A great night of fun and nostalgia is guaranteed.

Gorey Coursing Club

The Gorey Coursing Club will hold its AGM on Friday, March 12 at 8p.m. and all are welcome.

Gorey Darts

The Gorey Darts’ League will hold a fundraiser for Haiti in the Loch gCarman Arms on Sunday, March 21 with doors opening at 2p.m. Entry will cost €5 and all are welcome.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Gorey Musical Society’s presentation of Thoroughly Modern Millie promises to have audience members’ toes tapping in Gorey Little Theatre.

The show will appeal to theatre lovers and dance enthusiasts alike and will run nightly from Monday, March 22 until Saturday, March 27.

The first three nights will be run at a reduced rate of €10 per person with entry on Thursday to Saturday costing €15.

Retired Teachers

The next outing for the Retired Teachers’ Social Group will be a visit to the National Art Gallery, Merrion Square, Dublin on Tuesday, March 9.

The group will meet for lunch in the Gallery (Merrion Square entrance) at 12.30p.m. which will be followed by a conducted tour at 2p.m. If you have any queries please contact Elsie on 053-9421779.

Haiti Night

A fundraising night for the victims of the Haiti Earthquake is being held in the Amber Springs Hotel on Saturday, March 13 and a great night’s entertainment is in store.

Music from Big Jewels and Ireland’s best Elvis impersonator, Cathal Byrne will entertain the crowds before DJ XXX’s lighting show and disco will have you dancing late into the night.

There will also be over €2,000 worth of prizes – including weekend breaks – raffled on the night. Tickets costing €10 are now available from the Amber Springs Hotel reception.

Gorey Active Retired

St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Members are asked to please support this event. Walk with the group from the monument to the bottom of Esmonde Street and bring your friends/grandchildren. For more information ask any member of the committee.

Titanic Exhibition: On March 24, a trip to the exhibition at City West Hotel. The cost will be €30 for a good day out. Phone Anne on 087-2902829.

Spring Break: Between May 23 and 28 the spring break will take place in Breffey House, Co. Mayo. The cost for five nights is €295 per person sharing with a single room costing €325. Bealtaine Festival: A talent competition will take place on May 16, 17 and 18. Give your name to George (087-7918272) if you want to take part.

Cruise: Beginning on November 11 for nine nights to Spain and Portugal departing from Dublin. The cost for twin sharing would be approximately €1,200. For more details phone George on 087-7918272.

Dream Auction

An auction will take place in the Amber Springs hotel on Wednesday, March 10 in aid of the Christ Church Gorey Parish.

Over 150 lots will be auctioned off on the evening, with brand new goods and services having been donated by the local business community to the cause.

Viewing of the lots begins on the evening at 6.30p.m. with the auction kicking off at 7.30. The €5 entry fee gets you a brochure, glass of wine, some food and entry into a number of door and spot prizes to be held on the night.

Bag-packing Success

Last weekend saw three days of fundraising in Tesco by Rene Cadwell in aid of her trip to Haiti along with her husband, Peter Byrne. The couple will head to Haiti in April with the Haven ‘Build it Week’.

€3,183.35 was raised by the bagpackers this weekend and Rene wanted to thank all those who helped her out and those who gave so generously.

National Parents’ Council

Many primary schools in the Gorey area are affiliated to the National Parents’ Council (NPC) and affiliation fees are paid annually.

However, there is no representative for the NPC based in Wexford so the funds collected are not fully used and allocated for use by the schools in this county.

A letter has been sent to all schools to invite representatives to come to a meeting today, Wednesday March 3, in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

The NPC are therefore anxious to see if there would be sufficient people interested in setting up a county branch.

Expressions Art & Craft Studio

The official opening of Expression Art and Craft Studio at 85 Main Street, Gorey (above the Indoor Country Market) will take place on Saturday, March 6 between 6 and 8p.m.

There will be snacks, refreshments, an artist demonstration by local pet portrait artist Dale Adams, clowns, face-painting and a celebrity opening by Aisling O’Neill from Fair City.

Guest artists will also be there and there will be an art exhibition with all proceeds donated to St. Aidan’s Day Care Centre, Gorey.

North Wexford MS

The AGM of the North Wexford ranch of MS Ireland takes place on Sunday, March 7 at 3p.m. sharp in the Pastoral Centre, St. Michael’s Church, Gorey.

Anyone interested in helping in any way please come along. All members old and new are very welcome.

Gorey Celtic

Day of Prayer

An international and interdenominational World Day of Prayer Service will take place in Gorey Methodist Church on Friday, March 5 at 8.15p.m. All are welcome to attend.

CWCW

The County Wexford Community Workshop’s church gate collections in recent weeks amounted to €1,095 and everyone who gave so generously is thanked.

Gorey Comedy Club

Next Friday, March 5 will see Karl Spain and Paul Tylak take the stage at the Loch gCarman Arms. As part of the Gorey Comedy Club series, the pair will entertain the expected large audience.

Karl Spain shot to prominence in 2000 winning RTÉ’s Best New Act award and has since gone on to feature in a string of TV shows such as The Panel, Killinaskully and Karl Spain wants to Rock.

Paul Tylak was first introduced to Irish audiences at the end of the 1980s on the late-night chat show Nighthawks. Since then Paul has starred on a variety of shows in Ireland and England including his own awardwinning sketch show Stew.

Beekeepers

The Gorey beekeepers’ March lecture will now take place on March 11 at 8p.m. in the Teagasc Centre. The speaker on the night will be Jim Donohoe and the subject will be ‘Getting your bees ready for the Season’. All members welcome. For more information contact Ger on 086-3517579.
