School bank heads to regional finals
SIX STUDENTS from Gorey Community School will head to regional finals of a banking competition next week.
The AIB Build a Bank Challenge sets pupils across the country the challenge of setting up and running a bank within their school.
The members of All2Gether Bank (A2G) are Transition Year students Sean Barry (manager), Hayley Godkin (assistant manager), Maeve Bolger (auditor), Eimear Hogan (teller), Caitlín Crowe (teller) and Niamh Walsh (sales and marketing executive).
Their aim is to take financial pressures off parents by encouraging students to save in their school. The school bank opens every Wednesday for the convenience of the students.
The team are assisted by Ms. Lenihan and local bank official, Catriona Leacy.
The launch of the bank took place on November 25 last and since then the A2G Bank has been marketing itself by offering selection boxes and free phone credit at Christmas.
The current offer is free Easter eggs with every account opened.
So far the A2G Bank has been a success and all the team members are looking forward to the regional finals which are being held in Kilkenny next Monday, March 8.
The Bank are hoping that students will be open to the idea of saving their money as it will help them greatly in the future to plan their expenditure.
